The vision behind this company is simple – to skillfully blend the theoretical and empirical content of financial engineering with the storytelling, creativity and graphics technology that define today's best filmmaking.

Lineplot Productions specializes in creating multimedia content from highly quantitative financial material. Lineplot is, by intention, a boutique design firm - more like a hedge fund than a mutual fund.

As a highly motivated and focused firm, Lineplot is able to become involved in a select number of quality projects that allow the partners to bring hands-on involvement at each step of the design process.

The unique problem space for these projects involves both a thorough understanding of the financial engineering aspects of each problem, as well as a fine sense of design and presentation. The process is at once collaborative, precise, and creative.

The company name is an homage to the classical 2-dimensional line plot. The name is also a play in the direction of "plot line," the kernel of storytelling and creative visual presentation.

People at Lineplot
Pasha Roberts Pasha Roberts: President

Pasha founded Lineplot in 2003 to bring together his long-standing interests in finance, graphical design, software and mathematics. His thesis work at the MIT Laboratory for Financial Engineering explored and prototyped 3D graphical representations of "tick" data for future trading interfaces. In addition to his MIT degree, his background includes twenty years of software development and successful entrepreneurship experience.

Pasha co-founded his prior venture, WebLine Communications Corporation, to create enterprise software that integrated a corporate web presence with call center operations. He served as President/CEO, Vice President of Product Marketing, and then as Software Architect as the company grew and ultimately was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1999. WebLine software continues as a key element of Cisco's Call Center Business Unit and is in daily use throughout the world.

Pasha holds a bachelors degree in Economics and Russian Studies from The College of William and Mary, and a Masters of Science in Financial Engineering from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He was introduced to computers and the internet at its inception by his father, Larry Roberts, one of the original architects and creators of ARPANET.

Pasha's hobbies include collecting antique slide rules and stock certificates. His taste in slide rule is transitioning from the large scientific models like the Faber-Castell 2/83N Novo-Duplex to more classic K&E models, Darmstadt variants, and much older predecessors such as the Gunter's Line.
